Cannabinoid Spotlight: Delta-8-THC

delta 8 thc cannabinoid education blog

It seems that every year that passes brings new terminology to the legal cannabis sphere, especially when it comes to cannabinoids. However — these aren’t just fads or fleeting corporate buzzwords — they’re a testament to the incredible and constantly surprising possibilities of the cannabis plant. By now you may have heard about the relatively lesser-known minor cannabinoid, Delta-8-THC, that has been shaking things up in the legal cannabis market and getting many in the industry excited for its wellness possibilities. For those that are unfamiliar, you might be thinking, “THC is THC, no?” Not necessarily.

With so much information (or misinformation) out there on the various beneficial cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant, it’s very easy to be led astray in your search for the best cannabis-based option for you. But, not to worry, we’ve got you!

At PufCreativ, we believe that cannabinoid information and education are absolutely crucial for optimal levels of self-care, as is knowing exactly what you’re putting in your body. Keep reading as we discuss the particulars of Delta-8-THC, how it differs from Delta-9-THC, and some exciting brand happenings on our horizon.

What is Delta-8-THC and How Does it Differ From Delta-9-THC?

Delta-8-THC, is an analogue of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and has been studied for its neuroprotective and analgesic (pain relieving) properties, among others. According to the National Center of Biotechnology Information (NCBI):

Delta-8-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8-THC) binds to the cannabinoid G-protein coupled receptor CB1, located in the central nervous system; CB1 receptor activation inhibits adenyl cyclase, increases mitogen-activated protein kinase activities, modulates several potassium channel conductances and inhibits N- and P/Q-type Ca2+ channels. This agent exhibits a lower psychotropic potency than delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-9-THC), the primary form of THC found in cannabis.

As mentioned above, the main difference between the two compounds is that Delta-8-THC has a “lower psychotropic potency” – which means that this particular cannabinoid induces a much more mellow, less anxiety-ridden cannabis experience than its counterpart.

Naturally, this is very attractive for everyone that has ever had a bad time with extremely potent marijuana. While there is still a lot more research to be done, we are hopeful that this new development will help people that still wish to enjoy the positive effects of cannabis but have issues with anxiety or paranoia.

Marketing Delta-8-THC: What the Future Holds

Since Delta-8-THC is one of the latest developments in the constantly changing landscape that is the cannabis industry, experts and advocates remain optimistic that this exciting compound will herald a new paradigm in the market. Subsequently, as is with compounds like CBD or CBG, the more proven science and research associated with any specific compound, the better.

Because of its “new kid on the block” status, the Delta-8-THC brands that will gain traction are ones that partner with tried-and-true marketers (such as our stellar team of experts at PufCreativ) — while really stressing the importance of education, awareness, and transparency in regards to their products.
